Job Title: Solar Operations Controls Specialist

Contract Type: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire (C2H)

Location: 100% Onsite in California

  • 70% at Topaz Solar Farm, Santa Margarita, CA
  • 30% at Solar Star Farm, Rosamond, CA
  • Candidates must relocate to San Luis Obispo for the duration of the contract.

Overview

BHE Renewables is seeking a skilled Solar Operations Controls Specialist with a strong background in control systems and project management to support our solar and battery generation facilities in California. The ideal candidate will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining monitoring and control systems for our renewable energy projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Control Systems Management (25%):
  • Ensure reliable, efficient, and safe operation of controls and measurement systems at the Topaz and Solar Star facilities. Support daily control issues, implement continuous process improvements, and design new control systems while optimizing existing ones.
  • Project Management (25%):
  • Oversee the lifecycle of solar farm construction projects, ensuring timely completion within scope and budget. Coordinate with cross-functional teams, manage subcontractors, and ensure seamless project execution.
  • Technical Compliance (15%):
  • Review process and equipment designs for compliance with engineering standards and contract specifications. Analyze data and prepare technical reports and design documents.
  • Consultancy Support (15%):
  • Provide technical support on instrumentation and control systems for maintenance, operations, and engineering teams. Evaluate equipment performance and recommend design improvements.
  • Budget and Planning (10%):
  • Assist in planning and scheduling major overhauls, preparing annual capital and expense budgets, and developing new business proposals.
  • Additional Responsibilities (10%):
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience with Allen Bradley PLCs.
  • Background in managing projects such as site expansions or equipment upgrades.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical and instrumentation systems, including low, medium, and high voltage applications.
  • Familiarity with asset management and maintenance systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation capabilities.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in mathematical concepts, including probability and statistical process control.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects.

Additional Information

  • Travel: This role requires no travel outside of California.
  • Relocation: Candidates must be willing to relocate to San Luis Obispo on Day 1. Travel to job sites can be done via personal vehicle or rental, with expenses covered.
