Job Description

Job Title: Solar Engineer

Pay Rate: $44/hour – $58/hour

Location: Ideally between Bakersfield and Las Vegas

Scope of Job:

Provide technical support for both owned and third-party assets under contract. The role focuses on ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations of solar and battery storage equipment. Responsibilities include documenting knowledge gained through hands-on evaluations, assisting in the development of maintenance strategies, and working closely with various teams to optimize plant performance and sustainability.

Responsibilities:

Field Process Standardization & Compliance Programs

  • Assist in directing and coordinating maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities, ensuring alignment with OEM manuals, company best practices, and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with SIG/OT to design, develop, and implement monitoring systems for solar and battery storage assets.
  • Support analytical reviews of solar and battery facilities to enhance modeling accuracy and corrective actions for underperforming plants.
  • Develop field-level processes based on OEM manuals and industry best practices, working with the Document Control team to institutionalize these processes.
  • Define necessary technician training, qualifications, and content development as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in conjunction with Technical Training.
  • Evaluate system-level components related to solar and battery storage, identifying alternative material suppliers for various equipment.
  • Collaborate with Procurement to source necessary repair and replacement materials.
  • Validate processes developed by Health, Safety & Environment, Operational Technology, NERC Services, and other enterprise-wide SMEs.
  • Work with Dispatch System providers and Document Control under the guidance of the Senior Manager, Solar, to continuously improve mobile information and documentation for field technicians.

Field Support

  • Instruct, train, and assist site personnel in safe work practices, including infra-red thermography and battery testing and maintenance, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Integrate enterprise-wide processes into the solar business, collaborating with other SMEs.
  • Maintain current revisions of solar and battery storage site technical libraries in the OEM Center Library, in collaboration with technical services, strategic procurement, and document control teams.
  • Provide technical direction during unplanned outages to restore plant operations safely and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with Solar/Battery Storage Engineering, PRE, Asset Management, and Site Managers to evaluate high-risk equipment, coordinate analyses, corrective actions, and follow-ups.
  • Apply lean management principles to solar and battery storage processes to drive continuous improvement and innovative solutions.
  • Evaluate Standardized Work for value-add and efficiency.
