Job Description

Role Overview:

The position is for a Power System Engineer focused on Grid Code Compliance at ABB, a company that works on global energy challenges. The job will involve ensuring that wind, solar, and battery storage systems comply with the rules and standards (called grid codes) set by national and regional energy grids. The position can be based remotely in Canada or the US.

Responsibilities:

  1. Grid Code Compliance Studies
  • You’ll analyze and test how renewable energy systems (like wind and solar) connect to the energy grid
  1. Power System Design & Optimization
  • Your role will include improving how the energy systems manage things like voltage and frequency control
  1. Testing and Validation
  • You’ll help test systems to ensure they work according to grid rules (like making sure they can handle faults or disruptions in power)
  1. Regulatory Compliance
  • You’ll keep track of updates to grid code regulations to ensure all systems stay compliant
  1. Project Management & Coordination
  • You’ll help plan, schedule, and guide teams to ensure all technical requirements are met on time

Qualifications:

  1. Education and Certification:
  • You’ll need a Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering and must be a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or able to get that certification quickly
  1. Experience:
  • You should have 5+ years of experience in power systems engineering, particularly around renewable energy (wind, solar, etc.) and grid compliance
  • You must be familiar with power system analysis software like PSS/E, PSCAD, or ETAP.
  1. Skills:
  • You need to be good at problem-solving, analysis, and communication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are important for working with both regulatory bodies and project teams.
  • You should be able to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively
  1. Certifications:
  • Additional certifications related to renewable energy or grid compliance are a bonus and show that you’re committed to staying current in the industry.
