Position Summary
The Senior Manager, Development will lead efforts to create shovel-ready solar and storage projects. The Senior Manager will oversee a portfolio of 4–10 projects, managing activities from land siting and interconnection through permitting and origination.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Director of Development to evaluate new markets, drive siting campaigns, identify commercial opportunities, and forecast revenue streams. Deep understanding of PJM markets is a plus.
- Work with internal teams, external land managers, and independently to identify prospect sites, research land ownership, engage landowners, perform site diligence, and finalize paperwork.
- Coordinate with internal teams and consultants to file interconnection applications, drive studies with utilities and ISOs, and secure signed interconnection agreements.
- Research required permits, manage consultants and attorneys, prepare and submit permit applications, and represent them at permitting hearings, including delivering expert witness testimony when needed.
- Build positive relationships with state and county officials, local residents, and industry groups to support permitting efforts.
- Assist the Origination Team by preparing bids for RFP/RFI opportunities, supporting contract negotiations, and educating potential customers on solar and storage benefits.
- Oversee project budgets, forecasts, and cost controls. Develop and present project scopes, schedules, and budgets, ensuring they remain on track.
- Work closely with Development Engineering, Legal, Policy, Project Finance, EPC, and executive leadership to mitigate risks and maintain project progress.
- Frequently visit project sites, landowners, stakeholders, and local officials as needed to advance development.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; master’s degree preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in renewable energy project development, with a strong preference for experience in Virginia and PJM markets.
- Comprehensive understanding of policy, regulatory, and market dynamics that influence solar and storage project viability.
- Proven success in managing relationships with internal teams and external technical experts.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
