Our client is market leader in developing, financing, and operating distributed-scale solar and energy storage systems for commercial, industrial, municipal, and utility clients across the United States. With a portfolio of over 100 solar energy projects, representing more than half a gigawatt of distributed generation capacity.
They are seeking a seasoned Director-level professional specializing in renewable energy project management to lead and oversee the development and construction of small to mid-sized solar photovoltaic (PV), energy storage systems (ESS), and solar + storage (PV+BESS) projects. The Senior Director of Project Management will be a key driver in building and managing their distributed solar, solar + solar and community solar project pipeline, ensuring seamless execution of project lifecycle activities while maintaining industry standards for safety, quality, and efficiency.
This role will include cross-functional collaboration with Development, Engineering, M&A, Finance, and Operations teams.
The Senior Director of Project Management will lead efforts in managing the project portfolio lifecycle, overseeing the following activities:
- Define and implement best practices, processes, and policies for project management to align with corporate goals and strategy.
- Establish performance measurement tools, scorecards, and surveys to assess and enhance project delivery across the organization.
- Act as a key leader, collaborating across internal teams to drive successful execution of project management activities.
- Build and lead a high-performing project management team, including direct oversight of daily tasks and contracted third-party resources.
- Foster a safety-first culture, ensuring adherence to all internal and external safety regulations.
- Mentor team members to enhance skills in program and project governance, delivery methods, and risk management.
- Oversee all aspects of EPC contract negotiation, construction oversight, and procurement of owner-provided materials.
- Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and milestones, ensuring deadlines are consistently met.
- Supervise the preparation of contracts, scopes of work, and evaluation processes for vendors, consultants, and engineering firms.
- Champion ongoing process improvements to reduce costs, enhance quality, and increase efficiency in project delivery.
- Maintain a feedback loop with development and operations teams to ensure lessons learned are applied to future projects.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with equipment suppliers, consultants, and EPC partners.
- Represent them at industry events and conferences, promoting the organization’s expertise and leadership in renewable energy.
- Support tax equity and debt financing efforts, including due diligence and financial reporting.
- Conduct site visits to ensure compliance with quality assurance measures and safety practices.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and possess the following qualifications:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- Alternative degrees in project management, economics, business, finance, or energy are acceptable.
Experience
- At least 6 years of leadership experience in project management or maintenance management, preferably with complex assets in the energy sector.
- Proven track record in solar PV and ESS construction, including EPC contract management and compliance with OSHA and other safety regulations.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of solar PV and ESS construction techniques, including medium- and low-voltage electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical designs, construction drawings, and specifications.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook) and familiarity with AutoCAD preferred.
- PMP certification and knowledge of project engineering principles are highly desirable.
