Job Summary:
The Sales Director will be responsible for driving the sales strategy and revenue growth for leading Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) manufacturer. This role requires a deep understanding of the energy storage industry, including market trends, customer needs, and competitive dynamics, with the ability to lead a sales team and engage directly with senior decision-makers in utilities, governments, and large corporations. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in sales leadership within the energy or renewables sector, exceptional negotiation skills, and a passion for advancing the clean energy transition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sales Strategy Development:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy to meet revenue and growth targets for utility-scale BESS projects. Align sales goals with the company’s overall business objectives, market trends, and customer needs.
- Client Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key customers, including utilities, IPPs, developers, government agencies, and other industry stakeholders. Serve as the main point of contact for high-value clients and ensure customer satisfaction throughout the sales process and beyond.
- Business Development:
- Identify new business opportunities, markets, and partnerships to expand the company’s customer base in the utility-scale energy storage sector. Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and regulatory developments to keep the company positioned as a leader in the BESS market.
- Sales Team Leadership:
- Lead and manage a high-performing sales team, providing guidance, mentorship, and motivation to achieve individual and collective sales targets. Foster a collaborative and results-driven team culture.
- Contract Negotiation & Closing:
- Lead contract negotiations with customers, ensuring that terms and conditions align with the company’s business objectives and risk profile. Close high-value deals with an emphasis on margin optimization and long-term strategic partnerships.
- Market Intelligence & Reporting:
- Conduct market analysis to identify key drivers and barriers to success in target markets. Regularly report on sales performance, market trends, and customer feedback to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:
- Work closely with internal teams, including product development, engineering, project management, and finance, to ensure alignment on customer requirements, timelines, and deliverables.
- Customer Education & Thought Leadership:
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and forums. Provide thought leadership and contribute to the company’s reputation as a trusted advisor in the BESS and energy storage space.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field (Master’s degree or MBA preferred).
- Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in sales or business development within the energy, utilities, or renewable energy industries, with at least 5 years in a leadership role focused on utility-scale projects.
- Strong track record of success in driving sales and managing complex, high-value deals with utilities and large commercial clients.
- Deep understanding of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) technology, applications, and market dynamics. Experience with grid-scale energy storage, energy markets, and regulatory environments is highly desirable.
