Job Description

As the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Director at a cutting-edge Solar Owner/Operator you’ll be at the heart of an exciting, purpose-driven mission to power the future with clean, renewable energy.

Responsibilities

  • Operational Management
  • Oversee daily operations to ensure optimal energy production and operational efficiency. Develop and implement operational policies, procedures, and best practices. Ensure adherence to environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Maintenance Oversight
  • Plan and manage preventative and corrective maintenance to reduce downtime. Coordinate with engineering and technical teams to troubleshoot issues. Oversee equipment inspections, calibration, and upgrades.
  • Performance Optimization
  • Analyze performance data to identify trends and areas for improvement. Implement strategies to increase plant efficiency and reduce costs. Manage energy storage systems, if applicable, to optimize energy dispatch.
  • Team Leadership
  • Recruit, train, and manage a team of O&M technicians and engineers. Set performance goals and ensure ongoing professional development. Foster a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Budget and Financial Management
  • Develop and manage the O&M budget, including labor, materials, and contractor costs. Forecast and control operational expenses. Prepare financial reports and performance analyses for stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder and Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Liaise with regulatory agencies, local authorities, and key stakeholders. Keep accurate records and submit necessary reports for audits and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Educational Background
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related field); a master’s degree or relevant certifications in O&M, renewable energy, or project management is a plus.
  • Technical Expertise
  • Strong understanding of photovoltaic (PV) systems, inverters, SCADA systems, and grid operations. Experience with energy storage systems (ESS) and grid interconnection is highly valuable.
  • Experience
  • 7–10+ years in O&M within the solar or renewable energy sector, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role. Proven track record in managing large-scale solar operations, ideally including storage assets.
  • Skills
  • Excellent analytical skills, especially in data interpretation for performance monitoring. Strong project management and team leadership abilities. Proficient in software tools used for O&M and performance analysis, such as SCADA, ERP systems, and CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
