Director of Development

Job Title: Head of Project Development, Energy Storage

Location: New York

Compensation: $175,000 – 200,000 + bonus

With a commitment to driving sustainable energy and grid reliability, this innovative company develops energy storage projects across New York, targeting projects up to 5MW. Position Overview:

The company seeks a skilled Head of Project Development with a strong background in energy storage to spearhead project initiatives from inception through completion. This role requires hands-on experience with small-to-mid-sized projects, regulatory insights, and deep knowledge of the New York energy market. As the Head of Project Development, you’ll lead and strategize all phases of development, including site identification, permitting, and stakeholder coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

• Project Development Leadership: Oversee the development of energy storage projects up to 5MW, from site selection through to final approvals and interconnections.
• Strategic Planning: Develop and implement project strategies, ensuring alignment with financial goals, timelines, and technical requirements.
• Stakeholder Coordination: Work closely with regulatory agencies, utilities, local authorities, and community representatives to gain necessary permits and secure project support.
• Team Building and Management: Establish and lead a development team, collaborating with internal and external resources, such as engineers, consultants, and contractors.
• Market Analysis & Site Identification: Support the origination team in identifying and assessing new project sites, considering regulatory, environmental, and technical factors.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in project development within the renewable energy or energy storage sector, ideally in the New York region
• Expertise in energy storage project development, including familiarity with technical, regulatory, and permitting aspects
• Proven ability to manage multiple, smaller-scale projects simultaneously with a hands-on approach
• Strong communication and negotiation skills, with an ability to engage effectively with stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with New York’s permitting and interconnection processes
• Experience leading projects in an early-stage, fast-paced environment
• Demonstrated leadership experience in a project development role
