New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) is a driving force in realizing this agenda. NYSERDA works with stakeholders that span residents, business owners, developers, community leaders, local government officials, universities, utilities, investors, entrepreneurs, and more, to develop, invest, and foster conditions that:
  • Attract the private sector capital investment needed to expand New York’s clean energy economy.
  • Overcome barriers to using clean energy at a large-scale in New York.
  • Enable New York’s communities and residents to benefit equitably from energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Job Overview

The Commercialization team at NYSERDA is seeking a qualified individual for the role of Advisor II or Sr. Advisor to oversee and advise on the commercialization aspects of NYSERDA’s sectoral Innovation programs. The selected individual will assist in developing NYSERDA’s overall Innovation strategy to include the programs run within Commercialization and will Chair the Commercialization team’s Customer Success Roundtables; responsible for selecting its members, developing the agenda of topics to cover, and synthesizing the results to inform plans and strategy. The position requires 10-15% travel.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overseeing the commercialization aspects of NYSERDA’s sector specific Innovation programs (Advanced Fuels & Thermal Energy, End-Use Innovation, Grid Modernization and Power Generation & Storage).
  • Provides guidance and advice to sectoral program teams on how to incorporate commercialization into their program’s strategy and goals.
  • Provide an assessment of Sectoral programs commercialization as well as guidance on how to improve it, if needed.
  • Contribute to the development of Commercialization’s strategy by providing analysis and recommendations regarding the impact, costs, stakeholder needs, and potential market impacts.
  • Owns Commercialization’s Customer Success Roundtable process with responsibility for selecting its members, developing the agenda topics to illicit the proper feedback and synthesizing the results.
  • Impart a broad base of commercial and market development knowledge into the development and implementation of the Innovation team’s strategy in a market-sensitive manner.
  • Support the key focus areas including competitive procurements; economic and business development; support of sector specific working groups and industry partnerships; proactive stakeholder engagement, media engagements and public speaking.
  • Develop and perform analyses of outcomes, and impacts, including quantitative and qualitative data collection.
  • Represent NYSERDA at conferences, public meetings, and other forums.
  • Perform other responsibilities as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • For Advisor II (Salary: $123,793 – $156,224)
  • Bachelors degree
  • 8 Years of Product development or entrepreneurship/Start-up experience or a combination of both equaling 8 years.
  • 5 Years of experience in the clean energy and clean tech space.
  • For Sr. Advisor (Salary: $137,457 – $173,664)
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10 Years of Product development or entrepreneurship/Start-up experience or a combination of both equaling 10 years.
  • 6 Years of experience in the clean energy and clean tech space.
  • Experience with product innovation and/or startup support.
  • Strong understanding of the clean energy and climate technology sector(s).
  • Knowledge and awareness of the economics, regulations, and market drivers, that affect decision-making of NYSERDA’s partners, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, communicate and implement strategic plans with an action bias.
  • Track record for building effective partnerships and facilitating consensus-building among multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability and appetite to learn and assimilate new information and think holistically through complex problems with technical and non-technical components.
  • Top-notch presentation and interpersonal skills that resonate with audiences of diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills; ability to quickly aggregate and analyze information.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in market analysis and assessment.
  • Experience in establishing and running customer engagement and feedback processes like net promoter score.
  • Start-up fundraising experience.
  • 5 years’ experience with setting strategy and delivering services at scale or scope within business or government operating environments.
